Our Story

Appalachian Plantworks sprouted to life in 2023 out of my own frustration as a bonsai hobbyist. Like many of you, I found it challenging to track down quality starter material and a good variety of species to fuel my growing passion for bonsai. Finding stuff that was larger than a tiny 2.5" plug, but not exorbitantly priced felt nearly impossible. So, I decided to do something about it!

Our aim is simple: to offer affordable material that makes it easier for beginners and seasoned hobbyists to grow their passion for bonsai.

As a small, NC-certified nursery, we operate as a micro-business with a personal touch. Appalachian Plantworks is my side gig. By day, I'm working full-time at an amazing environmental nonprofit. This means we do things a bit differently. With a maximum of 1,200 trees in stock at any given time, we focus on quality and ensure that each order receives our full attention.

While our operation is based out of my home, we're committed to providing you with exceptional bonsai material - from new seasonal offerings to carefully managed shipping, we strive to provide the best for your growing collection.
