Trident Maple

Trident Maple (Acer buergerianum) is undoubtedly one of the most popular deciduous bonsai species – and for good reason. With its vigorous growth and adaptability to various styles and climates, the Trident Maple excels in creating magnificent bonsai compositions. These healthy starts offer tremendous potential for developing squat, sturdy bases ideal for root-over-rock plantings, imposing informal uprights, or the compact sumo style. The small, distinctive tri-lobed leaves reduce easily. A must for any collection.

Note that this species is deciduous and will not have leaves if shipped during the winter. The trees pictured are representative examples and will not be the exact trees you receive. Some may have wire for movement or branch placement.

Sizing Notes: 

• Regular Starts usually have narrower caliper and less development. They have been cut back substantially and may just be developing primary branching.
• Premium Starts are a year older than regular starts. They have been pruned at least one additional time and many have been twisted up with wire for trunk movement as well.
• Large Prebonsai are usually 4-6 years and have the thickest trunks and best movement. They have been shaped for at least two years and the designs are developing nicely.
