European Beech (Fagus sylvatica) is known for its exquisite branching and fluid movement. Perhaps the most striking feature of this classic bonsai species is its silver bark that accentuates whatever form it's developed into. The European Beech has dense, lush foliage that transforms into a stunning golden bronze in autumn. These trees often take longer to develop than some other species due to the fact that they usually only put out one flush per year. The European Beech is a versatile choice that carries slightly smaller leaves than its American cousin (Fagus grandifolia). The species thrives in acidic, well-drained soil and may prefer partial afternoon shade.

Note that this species is deciduous and will not have leaves if shipped during the winter. The trees pictured are representative examples and will not be the exact trees you receive. Some may have wire for movement or branch placement.
