Field Maple (Acer campestre) offers a unique alternative to the popular Trident Maple for bonsai enthusiasts. Our healthy starts showcase excellent root spread and branching structure, making them ideal for developing stout, chunky bases. Also known as Hedge Maple, Field Maple is a vigorous grower and bulks up in trunk size easily. Wounds heal quickly and the deeply lobed leaves reduce nicely. With age, the bark develops attractive rough fissures. The species is native to Europe and popular in bonsai practice across the continent.

Sizing Notes:
Regular Starts usually have narrower caliper and less development. They have been cut back substantially and may just be developing primary branching.
