Itoigawa Shimpaku Juniper

Itoigawa Shimpaku Juniper (Juniperus chinensis 'Itoigawa') has exceptionally tight and delicate foliage, forming dense clouds. Itoigawa shows better resistance to spider mites than Kishu and maintains branch flexibility longer. The runners produce strong growth useful for developing both branches and trunks, with wood production accelerating in warmer climates. Foliage color runs lighter green than standard Shimpaku or Kishu varieties, though this can be deepened through iron fertilization or micronutrient supplementation. The cultivar readily develops the dramatic shari and jin that complement its naturally curved growth habit.

• Regular Starts are 1-2 year old whips usually on the narrower end of the caliper range and rooted last year.
• Premium Starts are 2-3 years old and ready to be twisted up.
• Premium+ Starts are 3-4 years old and have the thickest caliper. Many have been twisted up for movement with nice branch options for overall design.
