The Japanese Beech (Fagus crenata) is a rare gem for bonsai enthusiasts, prized for its exceptional bark and overall stunning aesthetics. A slow-to-develop tree, it is one of the most commonly used deciduous bonsai species in Japan. It has smaller leaves than its American counterpart and silvery bark makes for excellent silhouettes in winter. Fagus crenata thrives in well-drained soil and benefits from partial midday shade in hotter climates, mimicking its natural forest environment. A hard-to-find species that makes a unique specimen in any collection.
Note that this species is deciduous and will not have leaves if shipped during the winter. The trees pictured are representative examples and will not be the exact trees you receive. Some may have wire for movement or branch placement.
