Japanese Dogwood (Cornus kousa) offers a unique blend of ornamental features throughout the seasons. The tree's most striking characteristic is its showy flowers, featuring four distinctive white bracts that resemble petals, creating a stunning display in late spring. As summer progresses, these give way to round, compound red berries, adding another layer of visual interest. Though not a common bonsai species, the Japanese Dogwood responds quite well to bonsai cultivation techniques and has many natural characteristics, such as fine/fibrous roots and quick growth habit, that make it an underutilized species. All trees were seed grown by a neighbor.
Note that this species is deciduous and will not have leaves if shipped during the winter. The trees pictured are representative examples and will not be the exact trees you receive. Some may have wire for movement or branch placement.
