Japanese Hornbeam (Carpinus japonica), though uncommon in bonsai cultivation, makes for an excellent alternative to other hornbeam species. Relatively slow growing but also easy to care for, the Japanese Hornbeam develops gnarled striped bark with age and sports seasonal catkins. It's leaves are slender and serrated, looking almost like a Japanese Beech.

Note that this species is deciduous and will not have leaves if shipped during the winter. The trees pictured are representative examples and will not be the exact trees you receive. Some may have wire for movement or branch placement.
