Miaotai Maple

Miaotai Maple (Acer miyabei spp. miaotaiense) is a rare Chinese maple that has some characteristics of Trident Maple, some of Field Maple, and some all its own! They offer wonderful cold hardiness with trilobed, Trident-like leaves and a unique corky bark that develops with age. Listed as highly vulnerable on the IUCN redlist, the Miaotai Maple is underrepresented in both the nursery trade and bonsai practice - but we feel it has tons of potential!

Note that this species is deciduous and will not have leaves if shipped during the winter. The trees pictured are representative examples and will not be the exact trees you receive. Some may have wire for movement or branch placement.

Sizing Notes: 

• Regular Starts usually have narrower caliper and less development. They have been cut back substantially and may just be developing primary branching.
• Premium Starts are larger caliper and usually better branching and development.
