'Nishiki Yamato' is not dissimilar to other pine bark Japanese Maple species, though it does tend to grow faster than almost any other and it is rarer in the nursery trade. A seedling selection of 'Arakawa,' It begins developing the signature pine bark in 3 years rather than 3-5 of Arakawa, making it a fantastic choice for those wanting to develop the aged appearance sooner. These trees all originated as cuttings from one of our specimen mother trees at the nursery, so there's no graft union to contend with and the prized bark will develop from twigs down to the exposed nebari.

Note that this species is deciduous and will not have leaves if shipped during the winter. The trees pictured are representative examples and will not be the exact trees you receive. Some may have wire for movement or branch placement.
