Zelkova

Japanese Zelkova (Zelkova serrata) is a true classic among deciduous bonsai species. A member of the Elm family, Zelkova features serrated leaves and easy ramification with multiple flushes per year. Versatile in styling, but especially well suited for the iconic broom style. Prized for its bark texture that that develops an enchanting aged appearance over time and highly adaptable to various growing conditions, the Japanese Zelkova Is a must-have for beginners and bonsai professionals alike. All sizes have been pruned at least once to promote branching and most all have been root pruned. 

Note that this species is deciduous and will not have leaves if shipped during the winter. The trees pictured are representative examples and will not be the exact trees you receive. Some may have wire for movement or branch placement.

Sizing Notes: 

• Regular Starts usually have narrower caliper and less development. They may have been cut back substantially and may be just developing branching.
• Premium Starts are usually a year older with the associated increase in caliper and development. They have been pruned at least once.
• Premium+ Starts have the thickest caliper of the bunch.
